Verrix are probably to be found on more worlds than any other single species, except mankind itself. The giant creature, with its enormous musclepower and placid nature, is standard equipment for many new colony ships. Transported as fertilised ova, it has replaced mechanical tractors on many emerging worlds, especially those of the Empire and bioengineering oriented Corporations. Records indicate that the verrix can grow to approximately three times the size of the Earth elephant. It is an omnivore and can adapt to digest most feeds, though the potato-grape of Anlave is known to be the ideal feed for the animal. Finally, many colonies have found that the versatile hair and hides of the creatures have reduced the need for expensive import of materials from off-planet during early years of colonial development.

Verrix are a native of the planet Stevenson in the Phiagre system.

Encyclopedia Galactica

The Encyclopedia Galactica is a respectable, but on the whole insignificant work, it used to be the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom in the universe.  That is, until the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy came along.  The Guide scores higher that the Encyclopedia in two respects.  First, the Guide is slightly cheaper; and second, it has the words “Don’t Panic” inscribed in large, friendly letters on the cover.

The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

1: A book. Not only is it a wholly remarkable book, it is also a highly successful one, more popular than the Celestial Home Care Omnibus, better selling than Fifty-Three More Things to Do in Zero Gravity, and more controversial than Oolon Colluphid’s trilogy of philospophical blockbusters, Where God Went Wrong, Some More of God’s Greatest Mistakes, and Who Is This God Person Anyway?

In many of the more relaxed civilizations on the Outer Eastern Rim of the Galaxy, the Hitchhiker’s Guide has already supplanted the great Encyclopedia Galatica as the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom, for though it has many omissions and contains much that is apocryhal, or at least wildly inaccurate, it scores over the older, more pedestrian work in two important respects.

First, it is slightly cheaper; and second, it has the words Don’t Panic inscribed in large friendly letters on its cover.

2: Also a book, written by Douglas Adams, which centers on the book that the book takes its name from. Not to say that the book deals entirely with the book, but that the book is, in the book, a central part. Of the book, that is.
